India, Feb. 17 -- Israel Defense Forces on Monday said a Hamas commander was killed during a airstrike in Lebanon.

The Hamas commander was identified as Muhammed Shaheen.

Israel accused him of planning attacks from Lebanon.

In an X post, IDF said: "The Head of Hamas' Operations Department in Lebanon, Muhammed Shaheen, was eliminated in a precise IAF strike in the area of Sidon earlier today."

The Hamas leader was killed amid the ongoing fragile ceasefire between Lebanon and the group.

Hamas has a significant presence in Lebanon.

It is allied with Hezbollah group.
