Amaravati/IBNS, Nov. 1 -- At least 12 devotees died and several injured in a stampede that broke out during a massive rush at Venkateswara Swami Temple in Andhra Pradesh's Tirumala on Saturday, media reports said.

Women with baskets in hands screamed for help as the crowd swelled, throwing the situation out of hand of the security at the temple, where the devotees had toured on Ekadashi which is believed to be auspicious in the Hindu religion.

In horrific visuals, some people were seen rubbing their hands on the chests of their relatives in their last, desperate attempt to revive their close ones.

The ambulances were packed with devotees who were either injured or in an extremely serious condition.
