India, Feb. 24 -- US President Donald Trump on Monday welcomed the German election result where exit polls predicted the conservative alliance likely to return to power in the country.

Friedrich Merz is all set to become the next chancellor of the nation.

Far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is expected to become the second-largest party, marking its significant gain in the polls.

"Much like the USA, the people of Germany got tired of the no common sense agenda, especially on energy and immigration, that has prevailed for so many years. This is a great day for Germany," Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social.
