India, Aug. 2 -- Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 11 lakh for raping a 47-year-old domestic worker in Mysuru and recording it.

Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

As per the verdict, the fine that will be paid by the politician will be paid to the rape survivor as compensation.

In a speedy trial, the verdict was delivered within 14 months since the case was registered.

The survivor reportedly submitted a saree in the court as evidence.

The forensic analysis had confirmed the presence of sperm on the saree, which the complainant had preserved.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CID had submitted a chargesheet of 2,000 pages against Revanna.
