Guwahati, July 26 -- Five police officers of Assam were killed and several others were injured in fresh violence along Assam-Mizoram border on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed.

The incident took place at Lailapur area in Assam's Cachar district along the Assam-Mizoram border where fresh violence erupted between the security forces of both states and miscreants.

In a tweet, Sarma wrote: "After killing 5 Assam police personnel and injuring many , this is how Mizoram police and goons are celebrating.- sad and horrific."
