Birmingham/IBNS, July 4 -- England landed themselves in trouble at stumps on day two after India scored a mammoth total of 587 in the first innings of second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday.

While Deep removed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in two consecutive balls for ducks, Siraj dismissed Zak Crawley (19) in the eighth over reducing the hosts to 25-3.

Harry Brook (30) and Joe Root (18) will resume the third day's play on Friday.

Earlier in the day, India captain Shubman Gill hit his career-best 269 off 387 balls (30 fours and three sixes) leaving the hosts toil for wickets for more than two sessions.
