London/IBNS, Aug. 4 -- The fifth Test between England and India entered the final day after rain interrupted the hosts' run-chase at Kennington Oval in London on Sunday.
England scored 339-6 at stumps, falling short of 35 runs from the target of 374.
However, Root's dismissal before the rain ruined the last hour's play brought India back into the game.
When the fifth day's play begins, India bowlers, who will return to the field after a rest, will aim to wrap up the English tail within 35 runs to level the series 2-2.
