New Delhi/IBNS, Aug. 12 -- In further escalation of the faceoff, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday summoned West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant to the national capital New Delhi after the State refused to suspend four officers over electoral roll discrepancies, media reports said.

In a tit-for-tat move, Pant has been asked to physically appear before the ECI in Delhi by 5 pm on Wednesday.

Snubbing the ECI's, the government on Monday informed the poll body that it had withdrawn an officer and a data entry operator from election-related duties and also launched a probe.
