India, Feb. 28 -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit Nepal on Friday, with tremors felt in parts of India's Bihar state, media reports said.

The quake reportedly hit Nepal's Sindhupalchok District at around 2.51 am.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the epicentre was at Bhairavkunda in Sindhupalchok district, reported The Kathmandu Post.

No casualties or damage to properties have been reported so far.

A large number of panicked people rushed out of their houses when the tremors were experienced earlier in the morning.

Nepali authorities have begun assessing the impact of the earthquake in the affected areas.
