India, July 13 -- A speeding Audi car, which was allegedly driven by a drunk man, ran over five pavement dwellers, including an eight-year-old girl, leaving them hurt in the Indian capital city of New Delhi, media reports said.

According to reports, they were all sleeping on the pavement in Vasant Vihar.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 1:45 a.m. on July 9.

The driver of the car was identified as a 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar

The Delhi-based realtor was arrested at the scene.

The mishap reportedly occurred when he was returning home from Noida.

Medical tests later confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol, police officials told India Today.

The victims were rushed to the local hospital for treatment.
