India, Feb. 8 -- Delhi's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost the New Delhi seat on Saturday, ending his re-election attempt amid Bharatiya Janata Party's clean sweep in the Assembly polls.
Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, which was eyeing to return to power for the third consecutive term, managed to grab only 23 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in the national capital after 27 years by clinching 47 seats.
Congress' Sandeep Dikshit finished third.
In 2013, Kejriwal had defeated Sandeep Sikshit's mother and Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit, former Delhi CM, to win the seat and marked the beginning of AAP's more than a decade-lonf rule in the national capital.
