Varanasi/IBNS, Oct. 2 -- Legendary Indian classical singer Chhannulal Mishra died of age-related ailments at the age of 89 on Thursday.

Mishra passed away at his daughter's home in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur at 4 am.

He was admitted to hospital for more than two weeks.

Mishra is survived by his son, tabla player Ramkumar Mishra, and three daughters.

Often called the "Living legend of Banaras Gharana", his music represents the rich tradition of Varanasi.

Apart from Khayal and Thumri, he has also performed devotional music, especially compositions dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna.
