New Delhi, April 15 -- The NEET-Post Graduate medical entrance exams - scheduled to be held on Sunday - have been postponed "in light of the surge in COVID-19 cases", Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informed on Thursday evening.

In a tweet, he wrote: "In light of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Government of India has decided to postpone NEET-PG 2021 exam, which was earlier scheduled to be held on April 18. Next date to be decided later."

An estimated 1.7 lakh medical aspirants were scheduled to appear in the examination.

The next date for the exam will be announced after reviewing the situation later.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde will hear the matter on Friday.
