India, Dec. 5 -- The Union government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the ongoing IndiGo flight operations crisis that has triggered widespread disruption to air travel across India.

In an official statement, Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu said in a statement it has decided to institute a comprehensive probe to assess the reasons behind the large-scale cancellations and delays affecting passengers nationwide.

The decision comes amid a sharp escalation in flight disruptions on Friday, with private carriers cancelling hundreds of services across major airports.
