India, Jan. 25 -- Police in Canada's Burnaby have described the killing of a 28-year-old Indian-origin man as a "targeted shooting," indicating a possible link to organised gang violence.
The victim has been identified as Dilraj Singh Gill, a resident of Vancouver. Police said Gill was "known to police" and that the shooting appears to have a nexus to the ongoing BC gang conflict.
According to Burnaby RCMP, the incident occurred on January 22, 2026, just before 5:30 p.m., when frontline officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 3700 block of Canada Way.
"When police arrived on scene, they located a male victim. Despite life-saving efforts, the man did not survive," police said in a statement.
