Ottawa/IBNS, Dec. 11 -- The federal government has added four organisations to Canada's list of terrorist entities, a move officials say will strengthen efforts to counter online radicalisation and violent extremism, particularly among young people.

Under the Criminal Code, the listings formally classify the groups as terrorist organisations, enabling law enforcement and intelligence agencies to freeze property, restrict financial dealings and use additional authorities to prevent or disrupt suspected terrorist activity.

Canadians and anyone in Canada are prohibited from knowingly handling property or providing financial services for the benefit of a listed group.
