India, Feb. 9 -- Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi on Sunday resigned as Delhi Chief Minister, a day after her party suffered a massive defeat in the Assembly polls with Bharatiya Janata Party returning to power in the national capital after 27 years.

She submitted her resignation to Lt Governor VK Saxena.

The Raj Niwas' official X page wrote: "Hon'ble Lt Governor, Shri VK Saxena today received the resignation of Hon'ble CM, Ms Atishi. He asked her to continue in her position till the formation of the new government."

Atishi submitted her resignation just a day after the AAP suffered a crushing defeat in the polls, ending the political outfit's decade-old rule in the national capital.
