India, Oct. 21 -- Mumbai/Chandigarh/IBNS: In the first major polls since the Lok Sabha elections took place earlier this year, people in Maharashtra and Haryana are voting to elect new Assemblies in the states on Monday.

Apart from these two states, by-elections are also being held in 51 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 17 states and one Union territory.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi urged people to turnout in record numbers and enrich the festival of democracy.

He hoped that young people of the states cast their votes in record number.
