Guwahati/IBNS, Dec. 24 -- Internet services were temporarily suspended in Assam's Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts after fresh violence erupted between two groups, leaving two people dead and at least 45 others injured, including 38 police personnel, media reports said.

The unrest broke out amid protests demanding the eviction of alleged "illegal settlers" from protected tribal belts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was closely monitoring the situation and announced additional security deployment in violence-hit areas.
