Guwahati, April 9 -- The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Friday shifted 18 of its 20 candidates, who contested the just-concluded Assembly elections in Assam, to Jaipur in Congress-ruled Rajasthan, fearing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would influence and poach them.

The third and the last phase of Assembly elections was held on April 7 and the results will be declared on May 2.

AIUDF is part of Congress-led alliance which hopes to unseat the incumbent BJP government in Assam.

AIUDF's organising secretary Aminul Islam, who is accompanying the candidates, claimed that the BJP will lose the election and may resort to "dirty tricks" and tried to influence the candidates.
