India, June 24 -- The London-bound Air India Boeing Dreamliner, which crashed soon after its takeoff from Ahmedabad, left 275 dead, of whom 241 were onboard and 34 on the ground, the Gujarat Health Department said on Tuesday, providing an official figure for the first time.
Since the June 12 crash, there had been no official announcement about the total number of deaths. The authorities had said a figure could be arrived at only after the DNA matching was completed.
Among those who died were 120 men, 124 women, and 16 children, while 256 bodies have been handed over to families so far, said reports.
The DNA identification of the remaining bodies is still underway.
