Kolkata/IBNS, June 19 -- Ailing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay is airlifted to New Delhi for better treatment as his health condition further deteriorates, media reports said.

Gangopadhyay, who is suffering from acute pancreatitis, was admitted to a city hospital days ago. He has also been diagnosed with gastrointestinal sepsis.

He is currently on oxygen support.

The judge-turned-politician was escorted to the airport on Thursday in a green corridor.

Gangopadhyay, who passed several crucial judgements in the Bengal teacher recruitment scam, joined the BJP in 2024.

The former judge successfully contested from West Bengal's Tamluk constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
