Chennai/IBNS, April 11 -- Tamil Nadu's two opposition parties, AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), came together to contest the state elections under the leadership of former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at a joint press conference in Chennai on Friday.

The two parties were in an alliance earlier as well. The Tamil Nadu assembly election is scheduled for next year.

The Union Home Minister recalled the massive win in the Lok Sabha elections in 1998 when the BJP and AIADMK were in an alliance helmed by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will comfortably win in Tamil Nadu, Shah asserted.
