India, Oct. 18 -- At least eight pilgrims died in a tragic accident in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, on Saturday when a bus veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine at Chandshali Ghat.
The victims were returning from a visit to the Astamba Devi temple, police said.
The impact threw passengers from the vehicle, which was completely destroyed.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem and later handed over to their families.
The Astamba Devi temple is a major pilgrimage destination, particularly for the tribal community, drawing devotees from Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Chandshali Ghat, where the accident took place, is notorious for its steep and hazardous terrain, posing high risks for vehicles.
