Dublin, Aug. 7 -- A six-year-old girl of Indian origin was brutally assaulted by a group of boys outside her home in Waterford, Ireland, in what appears to be a racially motivated attack, media reports said.
The child's mother, a nurse who has lived in Ireland for eight years and recently obtained Irish citizenship, said the family is shaken and living in fear following the incident.
She said the group of boys, believed to be between 12 and 14 years old, attacked her daughter while she had stepped inside briefly to feed her 10-month-old baby.
This is believed to be the first documented case of a racist assault on an Indian-origin child in Ireland.
It comes amid a spate of unprovoked attacks targeting Indian nationals in the country.
