Bengaluru/IBNS, June 4 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed shock and ordered an inquiry into the stampede incident in Bengaluru during the IPL victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) that left 11 people dead, while admitting that the administration did not expect such a huge turnout.

He said the tragedy has overshadowed the joy of the long-awaited victory.

"May the souls of the deceased rest in peace, and those injured and undergoing treatment in the hospital, recover as soon as possible. My condolences to the grieving families of those who lost their loved ones," he said, amid criticism by the opposition BJP for not being able to manage the crowds safely.
