India, Dec. 5 -- Former Mizoram governor and senior advocate Swaraj Kaushal, husband of the lateIndian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Delhi unit confirmed his death in an official statement.
Doctors declared him dead soon after he was brought to the hospital, news agency PTI reported. His cremation will take place at the Lodhi Road crematorium.
"Pained by the passing of Shri Swaraj Kaushal Ji. He distinguished himself as a lawyer and a person who believed in using the legal profession to improve the lives of the underprivileged," PM Modi wrote on X.
