India, Nov. 20 -- New York's mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said he is "ready for whatever happens" ahead of his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Friday, emphasising that lowering the cost of living will be his top priority.
Trump has previously threatened to deport the Uganda-born Democrat and repeatedly called him a communist.
Pointing to the city's skyrocketing rents and everyday expenses, Mamdani said voters across the political spectrum backed him because of affordability concerns.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers, he noted, voted for both Trump and Mamdani in the recent election.
