New Delhi/IBNS, June 12 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the Air India passenger plane crash soon after its take-off near the airport in Ahmedabad is "heartbreaking beyond words".

As per reports, 232 passengers and 10 crew members were onboard.

The injured have been taken to the hospital. The rescue operations are underway.

The private airline has set up a dedicated passenger hotline number - 1800 5691 444.

In a statement, Air India said, "Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off.
