New Delhi/IBNS, Oct. 28 -- The Supreme Court on Monday rapped the Delhi Police for filing no response on the bail pleas filed by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and others who are accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case, media reports said.
The top court asked police whether bail can be granted on the ground of delay in trial in cases where the accused are already in jail for over five years, NDTV reported.
The court posted the hearing for Friday and asked police to file a counter-affidavit prior to that.
The riots had erupted on February 23, 2020 and continued till February 26 of the same year as the supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those against it clashed in the northeast part of the national capital and spread like a w...
