Kolkata/IBNS, May 2 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday acted rough and tough over the alleged violation of rules in view of 14 deaths caused by a fire which broke out at the Rituraj Hotel in Machuabazar area of central Kolkata earlier this week.

Speaking in Hindi at the trading hub, Mamata issued a strict warning to the business community over the alleged flouting of rules.

The Chief Minister said she won't hold back from acting tough even if it costs her party's votes.

"People don't follow the guidelines. They should follow the rules. I am not opposed to anyone but I want everyone to be safe. I am fine with not getting votes for saying this. Don't vote for me but save your lives," the Chief Minister added.
