India, Jan. 4 -- India on Sunday described recent developments in Venezuela as a "matter of deep concern" after tensions escalated following the reported capture of ousted President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, by US special forces during a nighttime airborne operation in Caracas.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it was closely monitoring the evolving situation.

"Recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation," the MEA said.

India reaffirmed its support for the well-being and safety of the Venezuelan people and urged all parties to resolve differences peacefully.
