Los Angeles/IBNS, Dec. 23 -- Vince Zampella, the influential game designer credited with shaping the Call of Duty franchise, has died following a fatal car accident inCalifornia, Electronic Arts confirmed. He was 55.

According to local broadcaster NBC4, the crash occurred on Sunday on a road north of Los Angeles when Zampella'sFerrariveered off the roadway shortly after exiting a tunnel and slammed into a concrete barrier.

The California Highway Patrol said the vehicle caught fire after impact.

Zampella, who was driving, became trapped inside and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger was ejected from the vehicle and later succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
