India, April 16 -- Social media giant Facebook has once again been accused of being hand in glove with ministers from India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A recent report from The Guardian has found that Facebook allowed a network of fake accounts to artificially inflate the popularity of a BJP Member of Parliament (MP).

The company was preparing to remove these fake accounts but stopped when it realised that the politician was directly involved in the network.

The revelations have come from Sophie Zhang, a former data scientist at Facebook, who in September last year wrote a 6,600-word internal memo, detailing examples of how the company knew of political leaders from around the world, including India, who were using the platfo...
