A day after MoS for communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said that the telecom department rejected the satcom application of Nelco, the Tata Group firm informed the exchanges that it voluntarily withdrew its application to obtain a unified licence to provide GMPCS services.

Nelco said it applied for the licence in October 2022 and withdrew its application by March 2023.

"This was a proactive decision, not a rejection by the Department of Telecommunications. The withdrawal has no impact on Nelco's operations, as the company continues to hold all requisite licences to seamlessly serve its customers," the company said.
