India, March 14 -- Ahead of its Indian entry, Elon Musk-led automaker Tesla has reportedly kicked off the process of homologation for at least two of its electric car models.
For context, homologation refers to the process of certifying whether a vehicle is worthy of plying on Indian roads and complies with all necessary local mandates such as emission, safety and roadworthiness.
Sources told NDTV Profit that the Indian arm of the electric vehicle maker, Tesla India Motor & Energy Pvt. Ltd., has submitted two new applications for homologation of the Model Y and Model 3 cars in India. Of this, one was reportedly approved by concerned authorities recently.
