Manipur, Oct. 20 -- Shirui Lily is almost on the verge of extinction. Many experts have said that it may become extinct with the rising temperature and changing habitat. If intervention is not made with the urgency it deserves, the plant may be lost forever.

This was stated by the state governor, Najma Heptulla. She was speaking on the concluding day of the third edition of the Shirui Lily festival.

The governor continued, "Because of its rarity and beauty, it is now a well-known plant. Organising a festival at the state level has been a significant step of the state government and the flower has gained a stronger foothold and has become better known to the people."
