IMPHAL, Oct. 16 -- The 12-hour general strike imposed today by Coordination Committee (CorCom) and Alliance for Socialist Unity - Kangleipak (ASUK) severely affected normal life in Manipur valley with all activities coming to a standstill.

The total shut down which was imposed to condemn the 'Forceful Merger' of Manipur into the Indian union on the same date in 1949 began from 6:00 am and ended at 6:00 pm today.

Government offices were seen open but the number of attendance was very low compared to normal days. Unlike previous general strikes, several employees attended offices as chief minister, N. Biren Singh had already warned of taking action against employees who do not turn up for work during the bandh or general strike.
