Manipur, July 6 -- Five Congress councillors of the Thoubal Municipal Council and its chairperson on Monday joined the Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Welcoming the new entrants to the party, state BJP president S Tikendra said with the joining of the six members, the Thoubal Municipal Council has become a strong party council.

The six new BJP members are Thoubal Municipal Council chairperson Thongam Shyamo Singh; councillor of ward number 8, Waikhom ongbi Sanathoi Devi; councillor of ward number 11, Ningombam Surjit Singh; councillor of ward number 12 Khunjamayum Thambal Singh; councillor of ward number 13, Sanasham Ibotombi Singh and councillor of ward number 15, Mutum Ibobi Singh.
