Manipur, May 23 -- Elderly parents who are mistreated by their sons or daughters can file a complaint free of cost to the Deputy Commissioner or SDO and they will get the response of the complaint within 90 days, professor Chongtham Seibalini, Royal Academy of Law, said on Wednesday.

She said so during an awareness programme conducted on Wednesday at the Shelter Home run by Nambol Women Help Organisation.

She said that the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act was passed in 2007 to provide "maintenance" which includes provisions for food, clothing, residence and medical attendance and treatment.

'Welfare' means provision for food, healthcare, recreation centres and other amenities necessary for the senior citizens a...
