Manipur, Aug. 5 -- The author attempts to evaluate the performance of the district courts of Manipur by analyzing the available statistical data and comparing the state's judicial performance with that of some other Indian states.

The Constitution of India envisages a system of the judiciary with a three-tier arrangement. While the Supreme Court serves as the Apex Court of the country at the Union level, the state judiciary consists of the high courts and the subordinate judiciary.
