Pakistan, Aug. 20 -- The three-year extension has been approved for in-service Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The PM Office has issued a statement in this regard. "General Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed Chief of Army Staff for another term of three years from the date of completion of current tenure. The decision has been taken in view of the regional security environment," states the PMO.

The army chief was due to retire in November this year. However, given the regional security challenges currently faced by the country, his tenure has been extended by the prime minister.
