SAMASTIPUR, Sept. 22 -- A 23-year-old youth died after jumping from a mobile tower in Kharsand village under Kalyanpur police station of Samastipur district on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Amar Kumar. According to police, the youth was reportedly in love with a married woman from his locality and had been pressuring her to marry him, which she consistently refused. Eyewitnesses said Amar climbed the mobile tower around 2 pm, drawing a crowd from the village. Villagers repeatedly pleaded with him for nearly four hours to come down, but he refused. He kept insisting that unless the woman agreed to marry him, he would end his life. Around 6 pm, Amar leapt from the tower and sustained grievous injuries. Police rushed him to Kalyanpur CHC, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later sent to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for postmortem. Station House Officer of Kalyanpur PS, Rakesh Kumar Sharma said, on Saturday around 5 pm, information was received that a youth in Kharsand had climbed a tower and was threatening to commit suicide.
