PATNA, July 9 -- Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan on Tuesday hailed the Nitish Kumar cabinet's decision to set up a 'Bihar Youth Commission', for it was aligned to his party's 'Bihar First, Bihari First' vision. This commission is related to the welfare of the youth of 18-45 years, and it will have one chairperson, two vice-chairpersons and seven members. Though it is being set up for the first time in Bihar, several other states like Kerala and Assam already have it. There is also a National Youth Commission. In a post on X, Chirag said that it was a historic decision to dedicate a body to cater to the needs and aspirations of the state's youth. "The commission will protect the interests of the youth and ensure planned cooperation for their holistic development, employment, education and skilling. It is a powerful step for the empowerment and self-reliance of youth," he added. Maintaining that the move will lend strength to state's youth, Chirag also tagged a 2020 post when the LJP-R had announced setting up of a youth commission in its manifesto. The LJP-R had contested the 2020 Assembly election on its own after failing to strike a deal within the NDA and was seen as a factor being JD-U's lowest ever tally. "The setting up of a Youth Commission has been an important component of our 'Bihar First - Bihari First' vision document. We welcome the step and express our gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for this," he added. Chirag Paswan's praise for the Youth Commission is significant as he has been blowing hot and cold in the recent past with his remarks to contest the state polls or prepare for all the 243 seats . RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had also promised setting up of a Bihar Youth Commission at a party event -- Bhatta Youva Sansad -- organised by the party last month. "If elected, my government will set up youth commission, implement domicile policy to give advantage to local youth and waive job form fees," he added. RJD spokesman Dinesh Pal said the Nitish government move was another example of how it was following the agenda set by Tejashwi. "We will continued to jolt this government out of its slumber, as it was a tired set up after 20 years," he added....
