PATNA, Nov. 9 -- A young couple, who had reportedly eloped a few days ago, were found hanging from a tree in a mango orchard under mysterious circumstances in Bihar's Samastipur district on Saturday, police said. The shocking discovery has triggered concern and outrage in the region. Morning walkers spotted the bodies hanging from a tree near Maheshwari Middle School and informed the police. According to officials, both were tied with the same dupatta, and it is suspected that they were murdered elsewhere and their bodies later hung from the tree to make it appear as a case of suicide. The incident took place at Maheshwari village under Ujiarpur police station area, along the Dalsinghsarai-Bishanpur main road. The victims were residents of Kerai village. Police recovered Rs.3,800 in cash, an Aadhaar card, an earphone, and some jewellery from the woman's possession. The girl's uncle said his niece had been missing since around 11.30 p.m. on November 6. Hours after her disappearance, a joint picture of the couple went viral on social media, in which they claimed to have married. "We rushed to the youth's house and urged them to send my niece back. They assured us she would be handed over to the family on Saturday, but her body was found near Maheshwari High School. She has been murdered," the girl's uncle alleged. Though initial reports suggested suicide, both families have denied this and demanded a thorough probe into possible foul play. The couple were said to be in a relationship but could not marry as the girl was a minor and her family opposed the union. Police have registered a case, and post-mortem examinations are being conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. Officials said all angles - including social and family pressure, and whether the death scene was staged - are being investigated. Dalsinghsarai Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vivek Kumar Sharma said police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident.
