BHABUA, Aug. 31 -- A Kaimur civil court has ordered the attachment and auction of the Water Resources Department (WRD) office and premises at Mohania for failing to pay dues of Rs.1.5 crore to a contractor, despite a longstanding court directive. Court officials on Thusrsday publicly announced the order by beating drums and pasted the notice on the walls of the WRD office. The notice stated that the office and its 3.7-acre campus have been attached and ordered to be auctioned. Vijendra Kumar Singh, director of Shiv Shankar Construction Company, said his firm had constructed a bridge over the Bahuara Pump Canal in 1992, but the WRD failed to clear dues of Rs.28 lakh. The company moved the Bhabua civil court, which directed the department to pay the amount with 16% interest. However, after decades of non-compliance, Singh again approached the court. Taking serious note of the 33-year delay, the court of Sub-Judge-I Sangam Kumar at Mohania ordered recovery of the dues-amounting to more than Rs.1.5 crore with interest....
