PATNA, June 21 -- In a shocking incident that came to light on June 14, a woman school teacher allegedly murdered her 12-year-old son in Rohtas after he objected to her illicit relationship. To cover up the crime, she allegedly dumped the body in rural Patna with the help of her male friend and later set it on fire. She also filed a false missing report in Araria to mislead the police. Following the incident, Patna rural superintendent of police (SP) Vikram Sihag formed a team to investigate the case. The woman, identified as Roma Kumari Gupta, was arrested. She had been selected as a teacher after clearing the BPSC exam. Her accomplice, Nirmal Paswan, is a resident of Saharsa district and is associated with a private training college in Rohtas. On June 15, Barh police recovered the half-burnt body of a boy from bushes near the Bedhna overbridge. The deceased was later identified as Shreyansh, a resident of Raniganj in Araria district. Initially, an FIR was lodged against unidentified persons at the Barh police station, as investigators were unable to determine the motive for the murder. It was only after a police surveillance cell was involved that the case began to unfold. SP Vikram Sihag said that a police team led by Barh SDPO-1 gathered both human and technical evidence, which provided critical leads. Roma was detained and subjected to intense interrogation. "During questioning, she broke down and confessed to the crime," he said. Roma, a mother of two, admitted that she had developed a relationship with Nirmal Paswan during a training programme. She had reportedly distanced herself from her husband, Pramod Gupta. Her son and 15-year-old daughter had objected to the relationship. On June 14, Roma and her two children were staying at Paswan's residence in Rohtas when an argument broke out between Shreyansh and the couple. Enraged, Roma and Paswan allegedly beat the boy to death. The duo then transported the body in a vehicle, dumped it in bushes, poured chemicals over it to destroy evidence, and later lodged a missing report to divert suspicion. The rural SP added that a zero FIR was also lodged against Nirmal Paswan on charges of misbehaviour and inappropriate conduct with Roma's daughter. The case was subsequently transferred to Rohtas police for further investigation. Police have recovered three mobile phones and a car used in the crime from Roma's possession. The breakthrough came thanks to an alert police patrol team in Barh, which intercepted the car used in the crime. "The car bore a 'Bihar Sarkar' nameplate. When Roma and Paswan were returning after disposing of the body, the patrol team stopped them for questioning, recorded their vehicle's registration number, and took photographs of their ID cards. The very next day, the body was recovered, and the patrol team's timely action provided crucial evidence that helped crack the case," said the rural SP. Raids are currently underway to arrest Nirmal Paswan, who remains at large...
