Woman SI suspended for slapping biker in East Champaran distt
BETTIAH, June 14 -- East Champaran Superintendent of Police (SP) Swarn Prabhat suspended a woman sub-inspector on Friday for allegedly slapping a motorcyclist during a vehicle-checking drive in Motihari on Thursday evening.
The suspension followed the circulation of a video on social media showing SI Sweta Kumari, posted at Town police station, slapping a biker near Kumari Devi Chowk under the same police station area.
In the footage, the youth is seen attempting to defend himself when a man-said to be the SI's private driver-begins slapping him repeatedly, grabs him by the collar, and drags him towards a car parked nearby. Though bystanders did not intervene, they captured the incident on video, which has since gone viral on social media.
"The woman SI has been suspended. An FIR has been ordered against the alleged private driver," SP Swarn Prabhat wrote in a WhatsApp group named 'Motihari Police and Media' at 10:41 pm on Thursday. The SP, however, could not be reached for further comment.
In a bid to improve its public image, tarnished by previous misconduct by some personnel, the East Champaran police had earlier administered an oath to its frontline officers on June 12. These personnel, trained to handle riots and disperse unruly mobs, were urged to use soft skills, proper etiquette, and behave respectfully while dealing with common citizens.
The SP later clarified that the Motihari incident occurred before the oath-taking exercise was carried out....
