BETTIAH, May 3 -- East Champaran superintendent of police (SP) Swarn Prabhat on Friday suspended a woman sub-inspector (SI) for seeking outlandish favour from an alleged rape survivor's family members in form of hiring a luxury vehicle and bearing the expenses of court scribes to get her statement recorded. The action came against SI Pinki Kumari, who is attached with Harsidih police station of the district, after an audio went viral on social media in which a man, purported to be a retired sub-inspector Randhir Kumar, is heard asking for a luxury vehicle to take them to court for legal procedures. He is also heard alerting her family members to stay prepared to grease the palm of the court scribes. "This is none of our concern... As you have got a case registered, it would take money to record the statement before the court. The court scribes would take...," the man is heard saying a relative of rape survivor. SI Pinki Kumari's is also heard chiming in and corroborating him in the background of the audio. Areraj's sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ranjan Kumar said that a minor girl, who had come to her maternal uncle's place, was subjected to the sexual assault by one of her relatives at a village under the jurisdiction of Harsidih police station on April 29. "Medical examination was done after 48 hours, the family was asked to bear the expenses for medical examination, not only this, a luxury car was also asked to be hired from the family while the family kept saying that they did not have the money," said the SDPO....
