MADHUBANI, Aug. 20 -- In yet another tragic case of electrocution caused by dangling electric wires, a 22-year-old woman lost her life in Madhubani district on Monday night, officials said. The victim, identified as Chinki, daughter of late Kishore Bari of Chunabhatti in Darbhanga, was visiting her maternal home in Bari Tola, Madhubani, to attend the shraddh ceremony of her grandfather, late Ramashish Bari. Police said the incident occurred near Kali Mandir Road close to Ram Chowk under Nagar police station limits, when a high-tension wire snapped and fell directly on her as she was returning after attending a local fair. She died instantly after being electrocuted. The accident triggered outrage in the area. Residents blocked Kotwali Chowk and Ram Chowk, burning tyres and shouting slogans against the power department. The protest led to traffic disruption and tension in the locality for several hours. Villagers alleged that despite repeated complaints about sagging wires and unsafe poles, no corrective measures were taken by officials. On receiving information, Town police station in-charge Satyendra Kumar rushed to the spot with a police team. He persuaded the villagers to allow the police to take the body for post-mortem and assured them of a proper investigation. "The body has been handed over to the family after autopsy, and the matter is being probed. We are also in touch with electricity officials regarding safety concerns raised by locals," Kumar said on Tuesday.
